The past two days have been a mix of intense anger, sadness, excitement and longing to be back in South Africa.
What started out as a student protest against tertiary fee increases, turned into a revolution (or close to it). I am not going to give all the facts, but something huge is happening in South Africa right now. Just do a Google search or go on Facebook to find out about everything that is happening. This is about much more that simply protesting against fee increases. Read between the lines.
For what is it worth, we want to show that we stand in solidarity with everyone back home who is involved in this struggle; for those on the streets, for those facing police brutality, for those arrested, for those affected by systemic racism, and for those fighting to make life better for all of us. We wish that we could be there with you. Our heart breaks for South Africa and its people. Regardless of the outcome, we are bursting with pride at the courage of the people of South Africa who have been involved, both directly and indirectly.
While we wish we could be back in South Africa right now, we are currently in Boston, USA, for something that is also important to us. Blog post about that coming soon …
