Fruits & Roots is a natural and organic foods store with a vegetarian restaurant in Johannesburg, South Africa. We got to visit recently.
I got the buffet, Cara got the Tofu wrap, and we both got Flu Buster juices, as we were feeling a bit sniffly. The buffet had tons of options, thankfully mostly vegan. The waitress told me that everything except the salad with feta in it was vegan, so I took a little of everything else. The quiche wasn’t vegan. That was a bit of a bummer, but they let me take another scoop of something else to replace the space on the plate, so it was all good. So maybe just double check that whatever you want is actually vegan before you take it. Cara’s wrap was delicious. The juices were pretty good, but tasted like they had too much apple in them vs. the other goodness. Then I walked over to the desert counter, and came back with a massive slice of vegan apple pie. It was mind blowing.
Their store is awesome. They even had soya fish – what?! You can buy whatever organic, healthy, vegan stuff you need there, but it is a bit pricey. I was pretty excited to get some hemp milk, but then saw the price tag of R99.90 for a 1 litre. Oh well.
So Fruits and Roots is nice as a treat, but not that affordable for frequent visits. Food was great. People were cool. We’d definitely go there again, and so should you!
